Dennis Gutierrez - Biography
Dennis Gutierrez launched English for Professionals in 2007 to help with unmet communication needs expats and their families were acclimating to a new language and culture. Dennis’s innovative teaching techniques and use of materials and technology, enables his customers to quickly learn to function, using English, at a higher level.
In the course of a diverse 30 year career in corporate training, including 18 years with Berlitz, Dennis garnered the experience and expertise to provide an outstanding level of instruction. He started his training career with Uniqey International, the company which introduced electronic card-key access systems to the hotel industry. Dennis trained hotel staff and management on how to use the cutting edge technology.
He was promoted to Training Director where he subsequently improved the training program, and wrote training manuals for the fledgling company. He also became responsible for training new Uniqey employees, including new project manager/trainers.
Dennis began working at Berlitz (1986) as a language training instructor of English to adult professionals. Dennis was awarded Berlitz’s Teacher of the Year for the Washington, D.C. District (a district which employed over 200 instructors from Philadelphia to North Carolina) for providing unparalleled instruction to a wide range of adults from all backgrounds and nationalities. He was quickly promoted from Instructor to Trainer, a position which charged Dennis with identifying, hiring, and training new Berlitz teachers. Dennis used this opportunity to set higher pedagogical standards and raise the quality of instruction. He also revamped the training program, oversaw quality control, and developed special programs and tests, all of which resulted in an increase in business.
Dennis’s success led to his promotion to District Training Director, where Dennis became responsible for nine language centers in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and his responsibilities expanded to include training new Berlitz Trainers, and overseeing programs and pedagogical quality for the nine centers. The result was higher customer satisfaction and retention, and thus an increase in business. Next, as Director of Operations, Dennis led a team of 55 and spearheaded an increase in lesson volume at Berlitz’s Washington, D.C. location, one of the five busiest in the USA. Dennis completed his 18 year career at Berlitz’s Worldwide HQs in Princeton, where he worked on the development of materials for both students and teachers.
With English for Professionals, Dennis has taught a wide range of corporate professionals ranging from scientists and mid-level managers to Directors, CEOs, COOs, and CFOs of international organizations.
